“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart”. – Psallm 37:4
It was a gorgeous early spring day, and my flowers were beginning to bloom. I guess someone sent out invitations, and I just didn’t get one. Henry, our dog, was lying on the porch, soaking up the sun, and the ducks flew in one by one and landed in the pool. Then, as if the yard belonged to them alone, the rabbits came hopping around the corner, fluffy tails and all. It took all I had not to go outside, wake Henry, and tell him to do his job and get rid of those invaders. But why? I was being blessed by a wonderful gift from Jesus. He was in my presence, and I almost missed it.
Oh my gosh, the Lord gives me so much delight in the world around me, and so often it just floats by. It’s not fortune or fame, as they say, that answers my desires. It’s books for the Project Transformation Summer Program, yogurt with the granddaughters, sitting in the hot sun watching baseball, chatting with my kids, or simply slowing down and watching the ducks and bunnies while Henry snoozes in the sun. Jesus gives us these snippets of time that we can grab and hold on to, or we can just brush them away. So now, every afternoon, as I sit in my chair I glance over my shoulder in prayerful hope that my new desire, to see ducks and rabbits, will be shown to me again.
It was a crazy day, but one I’ll always cherish.
Ponder with me:
1. What are your delights?
2. Have you felt any of Jesus’ snippets?
3. Take some time to enjoy the world around you.
Pray with me:
Heavenly one, you come to me with so many surprises that I often miss. Open my eyes and heart that I may be able to delight in you and the joys you share with me. It’s party time.
